Year of the Bible

Back in April 2010, many of Trinity’s church members took up a challenge laid down by the pastors of the congregation.  “Join us in reading through the whole Bible in one year!”  A daily Bible reading guide was given out, and members of the church are reading the Scriptures faithfully day by day.  In addition, the pastors’ weekly sermons are based on Bible passages read during the week prior.

You’re welcome to join in, and participate in Trinity’s Year of the Bible!  You may use either the printable version of the daily Bible reading guide, or click on the following link to see today’s Bible reading on your computer/phone screen: http://Bible.TrinityHicksville.org

Helpful Hints For Your Bible Reading

Be sure to use an understandable Bible, such as the New International Version (used in church), the Lutheran Study Bible (available for purchase from Trinity), the Good News Bible, or the English Standard Version.

Find a quiet place and a quiet time, to read in private.

Pray before reading … something like this: “Holy Spirit, open my heart and mind.  Make me alert, and observant.  Lead me to the truth you want me to apply to my daily life.  Use your Word to bless me and make me a blessing.”

Before you start a new book of the Bible, read the introduction to the book available in church (bulletin or church narthex).   Reread the introduction occasionally.

There are some things you may not understand or find uplifting.  Skim these sections.  Read until you come to something you can understand and relate to in daily living.

Finally, don’t give up!  If you miss a day or more, make up for it on Saturday or Sunday.  Ask the Lord for strength to persevere!  Twenty minutes a day to devote to the God’s Word is more than worthwhile!  You can do it!
