“A voice says ‘Cry!’
And I said, ‘What shall I cry?’
All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like to flowers of the field
The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the Lord
blows on it; surely the people are grass.
The grass withers, the flower fades but the word of our God will
stand forever.
Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good news
lift up Your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good news,
Lift it up, fear not, say to the cities of Judah, Behold your God.”
(Isaiah 40: 6-9)

When Isaiah wrote these words, the Jews were in captivity. The prophet was
giving hope and encouragement foretelling their impending release.
We approach the close of a tumultuous year, most separated from our usual
comforts and diversions. Isolated and quarantined, we are fed a steady diet of
negativity and universally bleak forecasts of things to come. We are starving for
some good news and so we look to the multitude of virologists, immunologists,
political pundits, and other self-appointed experts, that are plentiful.
As Isaiah tell us all things, except for God’s words, are transient. The Bible is the
fount of truth and good news; its words will neither wither, fade nor change from
one chapter to another. God’s words were never spoken to enhance a personal
agenda. Instead of tuning in Facebook, You Tube, Fox News, CNN or NBC, let’s
pick up our Bibles.
Lord, teach us that You are the ultimate newscaster. Teach us to spread the
Word; help us to lift our voices and say, without fear or hesitation, Our God
Reigns, HEAR HIM.
