“Though the fig tree should not blossom,
    nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
    and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
    and there be no herd in the stalls,
 yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
    I will take joy in the God of my salvation.”
(Habakkuk 3:17-19)

Do we live as though we are grateful that sins have been forgiven?  I guess it’s our human nature that we tend to focus on all of the things that are not going “right” in our lives or in the world.  Most recently the past several months of dealing with COVID, shutdowns, working from home, online learning, loss of income of for many, uncertainty about the future, etc.

Our scripture says, in part: “yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior”.

Satan loves to place fear and doubt in our path which, of course, is sinful when we succumb to these feelings and this, in turn, keeps us from being close to God and experiencing His goodness in our lives.

We become so focused on the negatives (and the 24/7 bombardment of the media and social media doesn’t help) that we can easily lose sight of all of God’s many, many blessings in our lives and in our country.

Let us pray:

Father, often we don’t understand You.  We do know that You love us and died for us.  Help us to trust in You, especially when it is most difficult.  Amen.
