But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.  And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son  from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Today we celebrate what we believe… the impossible.  We believe the virgin gave birth to a son.  Things like this don’t happen.  It is impossible.  But yet it happened.  Why?  Nothing is impossible with God.

Mary, the virgin Mary, believed this.  She said, “Let it be to me as you have said.”  And it was so.

We believe in the impossible.

God came to this earth in the flesh.  The Son, who was born of a virgin, named Jesus.  He would be great and called Son of the Most High God.

He came to be our Savior.  Impossible for us to save ourselves, but not so with God.  Jesus came to save us from our sins.  He did it on the cross.  The perfect sacrifice for an imperfect world.

We receive this forgiveness.  Nothing that we deserve.  Nothing that we were born into to inherit.  Rather we receive this forgiveness as a gift of God.

So today, we celebrate the virgin birth.  We celebrate the impossible.  We believe in the impossible.  Truly nothing is impossible with God.

Take a moment right now and give thanks for this gift of faith you have received.  Impossible to believe?  Not at all!  Ponder now how God considers you that important to Him that you, right this very moment, are one of His own dear children.

Yes, we believe in the impossible.

Merry Christmas!
