“And he will swallow up on this mountain
the covering that is cast over all peoples,
the veil that is spread over all nations.
He will swallow up death forever;
and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces,
and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth,
for the Lord has spoken.
9It will be said on that day,
“Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us.
This is the Lord; we have waited for him;
let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” (Isaiah 25:7-9)
When we contemplate the resurrection of Jesus we ought to praise God for His glory just as Isaiah did. As Isaiah praised God for His glory, he became overcome with great emotion and awe as he enumerated His wonderful attributes and great works. His words were designed to bring much comfort to God’s people in the midst of tribulation and suffering, so they still apply to us today in the 21st century.
We need God’s comfort now for it assures us that He is in control even though our world is marked by social, cultural, and political chaos and dominated by the forces of Satan. But as we consider the mercy, grace, and power of God, as well as well as all the great works He has done and continues to do, we can be filled with peace. Jesus is ruling the earth from His heavenly throne even though the world that has turned upside down. The cultural trendsetters in the media, academia and politics have rejected Christ and do not speak about His victory over sin on the cross which we celebrate on Easter. Thus the message they give us is that what Jesus has done is not as important as colored eggs, jelly beans, chocolate, and the Easter bunny. The media has seduced the world into celebrating Easter without Him, to living life without Him and, what is the worst, He approves of all our sinful lifestyles.
The world ought to rejoice at the promises of the Lord as revealed in His word, both the written Word and the eternal Word, Jesus Himself who has shown us who God is. His word and promises are sure and certain, unlike the vague promises of politicians and the tenuous prescriptions of medical experts, scientists, and media talking heads. Thus we can look forward to the return of Jesus and His Kingdom of God in which there will be no hunger or thirst, no shame or guilt, no tears or sadness. The Kingdom of God brings comfort, peace, and freedom from pain, strife, anxiety and worry. Jesus has even taken away the fear of death for He has conquered it by His resurrection. Death has no power over us because of Jesus. Let us share this good news with all the people we meet for they may be wandering around in the darkness of sin and fear. Let us tell them of the great comfort of life everlasting in Jesus alone.
